Kampala by bicycle.
Kampala is built across hills and valleys, which makes it a genuinely good cycling city if you know the back routes. All three rides use quieter roads and paths, run behind a support van, and stop often — this is a sightseeing pace, not a race.
What's provided
Well-maintained hybrid bicycles, helmets, a front and rear light, bottled water, and a support van that trails the group with a spare bike and a first-aid kit. All rides start from Antonio's Restaurant, Kampala Road.
Three rides, three moods
Every route is scouted the morning of your ride and adjusted for weather and road works — the version below is the usual line.
Seven Hills Ride
A gentle loop across Old Kampala, Mengo and Namirembe hills, with stops at the Gaddafi Mosque viewpoint and Namirembe Cathedral. Mostly paved roads, one moderate climb.
Sunrise Market Ride
An early-morning ride out to Owino and Nakasero markets before the streets fill up, with a fruit-stall breakfast stop and a pass along the railway line.
Industrial Area & Wetland Ride
The city's working side — workshops, timber yards and warehouses — before dropping into the Lubigi wetland's cycle paths for a quieter finish.
How we manage Kampala traffic
Back roads over highways
Every route favours side streets and cycle-friendly paths; the busiest junctions are walked, not ridden, with the group grouped tightly.
A van behind you
Our support vehicle carries water, a spare bike, and a first-aid kit, and can pull a tired rider out at any point without ending the tour for the group.
Bikes sized to you
We ask your height when booking and set your saddle and brake reach before you start — a five-minute test loop confirms fit and comfort.
Some routes get muddy. That's part of it.
The Industrial Area & Wetland Ride especially — bring clothes you don't mind getting dirty.
Pick a route, we'll size the bike.
Tell us your height and preferred route and we'll have everything ready for a morning start.
